Meet our Managing Director, Jamie!

In this blog post, we interviewed our Managing Director, Jamie, to learn more about his journey and the origins of One Two One Accounts.

Can you tell us a little bit more about One Two One, and where it all began?

“I got into accountancy slightly later on in life and as a result, I always knew I wanted to have my own business even prior to starting my studies. One Two One Accounts was formed in 2012 and initially, it was simply completing the odd tax return for friends and family while I continued gaining invaluable experience in accountancy.”

What values underpin the ethos of One Two One?

“We aim to be approachable and friendly while remaining completely professional. Explaining the complexities of accountancy and in particular tax in a simple,

easy-to-understand way is our goal.”

What previous experience do you have in the accountancy industry?

“I have worked for three accountancy practices, two of which were similar to One Two One Accounts in terms of dealing with small to medium clients. The third was a contractor-focused accountancy practice. All three practices gave me invaluable experience and helped me enormously to get where I am today.”

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?

“At the minute I continue to look after a portfolio of clients and service their accountancy needs. This means ensuring all filing deadlines are met. I also, of course, oversee the continuous running of the practice.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“I enjoy working with clients to ensure all records are filed in line with any deadlines, avoiding any late filing penalties where possible. I also enjoy being able to advise clients and help them become more tax efficient, giving them more time to concentrate on what they do best within their own industry.”

Where do you hope to take One Two One in the future?

“The short-term goal is to continue to build the current practice and ultimately bring two more members of staff in to allow me to step away from the day-to-day work and concentrate on building the One Two One Accounts brand.

Now that I have witnessed the positive impact of moving onto the high street, the long-term goal is to open a second practice. Once I can get a feel for how the second practice works, the idea would be to have One Two One Accounts Limited practices around the country whether that is put into place myself or possibly franchised. This is something I will explore further in the next couple of years.”

Something a little personal now to round things off! How do you typically like to spend your free time when you aren’t working?

“I am a big football fan. Being from Liverpool originally, I am a big supporter of The Reds. I play quite a lot of pool too both locally and for Northumberland. I recently competed in the National Finals down in Southport. I am also learning to play the guitar, albeit very slowly!”
